Our Team

Timothy Donnelly obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1981, received his Chartered Accountant designation in January of 1985 and is currently a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. He became a partner of our firm in 1990.

Prior to joining Donnelly & Co. LLP, Tim was employed as the senior Tax Manager in the Edmonton office of a national chartered accounting firm. From 1985 to 1988, he specialized in the practice of income taxation, including the office’s international tax engagements. He continues to act as our firm’s income tax and Goods and Services Tax resource, serving owner managed enterprises and U.S. and Canadian taxpayers with cross border tax issues. He specializes in corporate reorganizations to achieve financial succession objectives.

His audit experience ranges from medium-sized businesses to employee benefit trust funds to corporations reporting to the Alberta Securities Commission. His varied professional experiences provide the basis for providing proactive, practical tax and business advice for his clients. Tim has implemented the firm’s current audit process, together with staff training manuals, to meet current risk-based Canadian Audit Standards in a more efficient manner minimizing duplication and providing a linking of audit tests to results of previous test results.

Tim is currently a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, past President of the West Edmonton Business Association and the Edmonton Junior Chamber of Commerce / Jaycees and Chair of Promotions for the 2012 Alberta Winter Games. He is involved with the community currently with the Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise. He is an avid golfer and curler, enjoys having a glass of wine with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Pei San Chan obtained her Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting Major by graduating from University of Alberta and received her Chartered Accountant designation in January 2003. Pei San specializes in not-for-profit engagements and owner-managed businesses. Her experiences include pension plans, health and welfare plans, condominium associations, foundations and various government funded agencies. She has extensive expertise in working with various accounting software such as QuickBooks and Simply Accounting used by small businesses. Pei San has a broad knowledge of the tax system.  She takes time to work with clients considering various tax implications of their decisions and offers planning strategies that could help them in reducing tax liability.

Pei San is a mentor for all students of our firm. In this role, she shares her knowledge and provides advices and motivations to students to help them to become a competent Chartered Accountant.

In her free time, Pei San is involved with local senior homes and community services in helping low income families file their personal income taxes. She is also a member of the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club, where she has served as President for two terms. She wants to make an impact on people’s lives both locally and internationally. Because of her dedications, Pei San received her early achievement award from the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Alberta in June 2012 and became a Melvin Jones Fellow with the Lions Clubs International Foundation for her humanitarian services.

Dani Perl attended Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Florida, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting Major. Dani spent three years working in the United States before returning to Canada. In 2008, after joining Donnelly & Co. LLP, she earned her Certified Public Accountant (Florida) designation. Dani then earned her Chartered Accountant designation in June 2010. Dani has extensive expertise with U.S. and Canadian taxation services for individuals helping US citizens with their reporting requirements as well as Canadians investing in the United States. She also assists with personal and corporate tax planning and reporting for our owner-managed businesses.

Dani has served as treasurer and board member at large for the Board of Directors at the West Edmonton Business Association, the Centre for Autism Services of Alberta and the Cardiff Golf and Country Club.

When she’s not spending time with her husband and son, you can find Dani either on the golf course in the summer or at the curling rink in the winter.

Eric Schmidt received his Bachelor of Commerce Degree – Accounting Major with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 2011. Eric has been with the firm since 2011 and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta in 2014.

Eric has experience providing accounting and assurance services to various types of entities, including owner-managed businesses, not-for-profits and charities. He also provides personal and corporate tax planning for owner-managed businesses, individuals and trusts.

Eric currently volunteers for the Holiday Hamper Program founded by JCI Edmonton. In his spare time, he loves playing golf, going to Oilers games and travelling.

Heather O’Kane attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting Major, Cooperative Program. After university, Heather completed her articling in Edmonton and earned her Chartered Accounting designation in January 2010. Her work experience in public accounting includes providing audit, income tax, and assurance services to owner-managed businesses, professional corporations, not-for-profit organizations and charities. Heather joined our firm in March 2017 as a manager and is responsive in assisting our clients with their compliance and advisory needs.

Heather currently holds a director position for the board of JCI Edmonton and is the Logistics Chair of The Holiday Hamper Program founded by JCI Edmonton. Her fondness of Edmonton and its citizens drives her to volunteer at various community organizations serving newcomers to Canada and disadvantaged populations.   

In her free time Heather greatly enjoys travelling and having adventures with her husband and three daughters.

Sue Huang joined Donnelly & Co. LLP in 2013 after graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. There she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting. Sue earned her Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant designation in May 2018.

Sue assists small business and owner-managed business with bookkeeping services, preparing GST and corporate tax returns, as well as preparing individual tax returns. She is interested in working with accounting softwares including Sage, QuickBooks online, and Xero. She looks forward to serving clients with these technologies.

Sue currently serves as treasurer for her church and also helps with other church activities.
